Testimony Time!

I've been begging Kris to share a few testimonies for the blog, but with the clinic being so busy this month he hasn't had time to discuss.  He has been playing catch-up for last month after missing some work with having John.  Now that things are finally caught up a bit, he had a few minutes to share with me some of his favorite stories as of late.  I have 3 quick testimonies to share involving 3 women that have been receiving treatments at the clinic.

The first female has been seeing Kris since we arrived in November.  She is in her 30's and is a homemaker.  She came to the clinic complaining of pain on the entire right side of her body.  Her right leg, lower/upper back, shoulder, neck, and head.  She was unable to complete any of her homemaker tasks like washing clothes (she washes all her clothes by hand), dishes, sweeping/mopping, etc.  She was also unable to sit/stand for long periods of time and could barely walk.  The pain was quite debilitating for her.  After receiving consistent chiropractic care for several months she is relatively pain free.   She comes now about every other week for maintenance care.  The pain in her leg and low back is gone and she only occasionally has a headache or shoulder/upper back pain.  It's amazing to see how someone can go from barely functional in her day to day tasks to now relatively pain free!  Another interesting thing about her is that she drives from over an hour away just to receive care.  She saw that the treatments were effective therefore making her drive worth the time.

The second and third females have a similar story.  Both women had significant disc bulging in their lower backs with MRIs to prove it.  They were told by medical doctors that they would need surgery to repair the disc bulge and improve their back pain. They both decided to seek alternative treatment and receive chiropractic care with Kris at the clinic to try and put off surgery for as long as possible.  After receiving adjustments from Kris they both decided to get a repeat MRI just to see if the discs looked improved from the first MRI.  Kris did not actually see the MRI from one of the gals, but according to her medical doctor, she was told that the disc bulge had improved significantly.  The doctor was so impressed by how much her disc had improved that he asked her if she had received surgery to repair the disc.  She of course had not had surgery, but had only received treatments from Kris over the course of a few months.  The other gal also had a repeat MRI, which Kris did evaluate.  He said the disc looked about 40% improved from the first MRI.  She was also asked by her doctor if she had received surgery, because the disc looked so much better.  The doctors of both of the women said that surgery was no longer necessary!

The last testimony that I want to share is also a prayer request.  Jude (the owner of the clinic) said that this month was a record month in which they handed out more Bibles and tracks than ever before.  More and more people have been open to receiving the gospel through these tools.  Please pray that these people would be open to accepting Jesus into their hearts.  Kris and I pray daily not only for physical healing for each patient, but more importantly that they would come to know Jesus Christ.  Continue to pray that the Holy Spirit would anoint Kris with wisdom and the gift of healing, so that all may be touched by the hand of God.  We praise God for the work that he has already shown us during our first 5 months here.  To God be the glory!

Happy Holi!

I realized that yesterday was 2 different holidays,  St. Patrick's day and Holi.  St. Patrick's day is not really celebrated in India, where as Holi is not really celebrated in America.   I thought it would be a fun blog post to show what we did to celebrate both.
For St. Patrick's day Molly and I made a couple of crafts for preschool.  I tried to explain to her what St. Patrick's day really meant, but it's a bit difficult to do that to a 4 year old.  Most of the craft ideas revolved around leprechauns, rainbows, and clovers.  This has nothing to do with the actual holiday itself, but we had fun with it anyway.  We also happened to wear green that day, which was quite by accident now that I think about it.

Holi is a Hindu festival that is celebrated mostly in India, Nepal, and other regions around the world with a large population of Hindus.  It is known as the festival of colors or the festival of love.  The festival is usually celebrated some time in March, depending on the Hindu calendar.  It signifies the arrival of spring and the end of winter, hence all of the fun colors.  Basically everyone runs around and throws colored powder or colored water on each other.  It also signifies the battle and victory of good over evil.  I won't go into detail about which good god defeated the other evil god, but you get the point.  I just thought it would be fun to go around and throw colors at each other and get painted.  Unfortunately I had a doctor appointment that got delayed and it got too late in the day to throw colors, so we decided to have our own "painting" party at home.  We decided to paint each other the colors of the Indian flag and to throw baby powder at each other.  We had a lot of fun making a big mess!
Molly thought it was so cool that she got to paint mom and dad.

Even John got some color (aka baby powder).  He doesn't look too thrilled about it though.

So Happy Holi everyone!  Let spring begin and let winter end!!  (That is for all of you back home that are ready for the dreadful winter to go away!)  For us in India, it only means it's going to get hotter, and boy is it getting hot.  We are starting to sweat it out here!  Hopefully we will survive!

February in a nutshell

I said I would try and do a blog post at the end of each month just to kind-of re-cap on what we have been up to.  All of you know that February was a life-changing month for our family with the birth of our little boy John Emmanuel.  I've shared a lot of pics on facebook with everyone, so check that out if you haven't already seen those.  There were a few fun things that we were able to do before John arrived, so I thought I would share that too.
About a week before John arrived we decided to do one last outing with Molly before we would be tied down to the apartment with a newborn.  We decided to do dinner and a movie.  We went to a mall here in Bangalore called the Phoenix Mall.  It is a 4 story mall with tons of fancy stores...a good place to do some window shopping.  Other than the Mall of America, it might be the biggest mall I've ever been to.  We found a Krispy Kreme and decided to stop for a donut.  It was sooo delightful! (Haven't had one of those in over 3 months.)

Then we went to a 3D movie and saw the new Disney movie Frozen.  Molly wasn't so sure about wearing the 3D glasses, but we all enjoyed the movie anyways.

After the movie we treated ourselves to some good American cuisine at the California Pizza Kitchen.   We had so much fun spending the day together as it did end up being our last family outing before John came.

Since John's birth we have been busy with feedings, changing diapers, rocking. holding, and loving on our little man.  We have also had lots of friends come visit to meet John.  We are so grateful to have so much support and love from friends here as we are not able have any family meet him in person yet.  Many of these people have gifted or let us borrow many of the baby items that we are using for John.  We are definitely praising God for his provision for us in this way!  I wanted to share a couple photos of some of our closest friends (aka our Bangalore family) that have come to share in our joy.  (I'm missing a few of the people that came to visit and didn't manage to get their photo with John).

I have definitely treasured each visit, so I thank all of you that took the time to come see us or make us a meal!  We can't wait for all of our friends and family back home to meet him too.  Anybody is welcome to come and visit us in India:)
